Salt River street art tour

A guided walking tour through Salt River, one of Cape Town’s most visually expressive neighbourhoods. Once an industrial hub, Salt River has evolved into an open-air gallery where large-scale murals, graffiti, and public art cover warehouse walls and side streets.
The tour unpacks:
-
Artists behind the work
-
Political and social commentary embedded in the murals
-
The area’s industrial past and ongoing urban change (some local residents understandably call this, a major challenge
- How faith communities, including mosques, churches and small Christian ministries, sit in the streetscape and community life
A highlight is visiting Community House, where social activism particularly during Apartheid, literary covers the walls. (We will be organising a tour of Community House soon).

I really enjoyed the relaxed nature of the tour, even the easy way we were able to meet and connect with new people. Kate has a knack for making people feel at ease, and anticipating their needs- even letting us know where there would be toilet facilities. Her knowledge astounds me, and I learned so much more than I expected! I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for another tour to join. Jenny, architect
The DHL international group absolutely loved the experience and were truly inspired by your knowledge, passion, and the way you bring everything to life… it was a very special day. Caroline, project manager
