Join us on a guided tour of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) led by Amanda Indiego Botha, a former member of the Zeitz MOCAA team, who has been involved in their programming on and off for three years. Indigo now wishes to focus full-time on being an artist and has been accepted into the City’s Emerging Artists Programme.

Based in Gugulethu, their multidisciplinary practice explores material, storytelling and contemporary African art. Indiego has exhibited at the Cape Town Arts Fair Week and Comic Con, and has made TV and radio appearances. Indiego teaches art in foster homes through Orange Art Project.

The tour begins outside the museum, examining the architecture, the transformation of the grain silo, and the site’s role in Cape Town’s urban design. Inside, we move through the cathedral-like atrium and its current installation before heading to the top floor (the former sculpture garden) and working our way down, floor by floor. This in-depth experience explores both the building and its current exhibitions, including:

Afflict the Comfortable, Comfort the Afflicted – a survey of Cauleen Smith’s works in film, sound, textiles, and installation.
A Protea Is Not a Flower – artworks by Lerato Shadi and Robin Rhode exploring themes of exile, identity, and belonging, referencing South African literary and artistic figures.
We Proceed in the Footsteps of the Sunlight – Zohra Opoku’s museum survey featuring textiles, photography, and sculpture that address memory, ancestry, and movement across continents.
Spring Is Rebellious: The Art & Life of Albie Sachs – an exhibition presenting Albie Sachs’ life and work through archival materials and artworks from his personal collection.
SALA – a collection-based exhibition highlighting works from Zeitz MOCAA’s holdings, encouraging different ways of experiencing the museum space.

The BMW Centre for Art Education, a collaborative initiative between BMW Group South Africa and Zeitz MOCAA that aims to expand access to contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora. Indiego used to assist in this department
