Taste the Mother City food walk

Join us for an exciting food walk exploring central Cape Town’s informal and formal culinary scenes.
From traditional African to artisan-driven destinations, the tour showcases a delicious variety of local foods. The cafes and stalls we visit are founded and run by people dedicated to producing the best possible offerings. Our aim is to create a genuine connection between food, culture, economy, and history in an enjoyable way.
The tour is curated and led by Unexplored Cape Town, a collective specialising in food journeys through the heart and soul of Cape Town’s local communities and African diaspora. Founded by Dennis Molewa, Unexplored Cape Town also mentors emerging food and hospitality entrepreneurs such as Kwela Brews in Langa. Dennis occasionally leads the tour himself; otherwise, it is led by his team members Aviwe Macothoza and Fezekisa Wulana.
Highlights include:
- Somali, Jewish, Lebanese, Zimbabwean, and Xhosa food (some stops inside, some outside)
- Meeting founders and key staff passionate about their work
- Exploring Cape Town’s history and design in the context of food
- Recommendations for fine-dining and fun restaurants, both internationally ranked and emerging
The tour focuses on people, spaces, and food of the inner city, inclusive of all perspectives, particularly small food vendors.
