Vergelegen gardens & house

October 24, 2025 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm

Spring flowers, fascinating stories, heritage architecture and delicious scones – a new tour by three Vergelegen staff with extensive knowledge and experience.

We start at 9h30 with Penny Saunders’ walkabout to get to know the lie of the land and key facts about this remarkable farm’s past. It was started way back in 1700, by the then governor of the Cape, Willem Adrian van del Stel, so there is a lot to talk about.

We break for tea and home-made scones in the Café Fleur studio. We have this beautiful space to ourselves – it is not open to the public.

Then our focus is the gardens. The estate’s head horticulturist, Richard Arm, leads this. He is joined by Chris Randlehoff, responsible for plant propagation, cut flowers, fruit and vegetables.

09h30 – 10h45 tour by Penny including history and homestead
10h45 – 11h30 tea and scones at Café Fleur Studio
11h30 – 12h45 garden tour by Richard and Chris
