Unfinished? Building Cape Town’s foreshore freeways (postponed)
August 2 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
R400Dr Lisa Kane’s walk uses Cape Town’s iconic unfinished freeway to talk about modern road design and the politics of urban space here. Her PhD was on the design, construction and early life of the unfinished foreshore freeways.
Lisa has moved this tour to coincide with the launch of her book, based on her doctorate. We are unsure when this will be, hopefully 2025 or 2026.
The motivation for Lisa’s research and writing are how roads get to be the way they are. Not just for technical and practical reasons, ”driven” by cost and efficiency, roads are manifestations of geography, history, culture and politics.
Lisa has been an engineer, lecturer, researcher and activist within the road planning and design fields. She co-founded the University of Cape Town Centre for Transport Studies, its Masters in Transport Studies and Open Streets Cape Town, the not-for-profit/NPO.
This tour is a first for Culture Connect. Lisa has done it for her university students.
Lisa facilitates a self-development course Start Finishing on how to get projects done (more info on Facebook: Dr Lisa Kane).
It was scheduled for Friday 2 August 2024 is cancelled; 10am to 12h30
The start of the tour will be Artscape in all likelihood.
