Art Cape Grace postponed to 22 Jan

The Cape Grace, in collaboration with Kate Crane Briggs, welcomes guests to enjoy exclusive tours of the hotel’s impressive art collection and contemporary art from The Norval Foundation. The guided tour with Kate begins in the reception area and continues across the other floors.
Joining the tour is Leila Abrahams, an interdisciplinary Cape Town artist whose practice draws on her lived experience of chronic illness and the emotional terrain surrounding it. Diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus at twelve, Abrahams transforms materials such as gel capsules and blister packs into abstract, minimalist compositions that challenge how we view invisible illness. Her work invites empathy, curiosity, and a deeper awareness of the stories behind the art.
Abrahams holds a BA(FA) from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town. Her work has been shown in Within the Fold at Smac Gallery in Johannesburg, and she served as the inaugural artist-in-residence at The Ramp Residency in Cape Town.
The art in the main public spaces and special suite take their cue from two centrepiece textile works by the Keiskamma Art Project. These artworks are inspired by local plants and flowers, and were the first pieces bought by the hotel investors.
Artworks in the reception areas and adjoining corridors are abstract, in keeping with the design of the interior. The hotel commissioned 1508 London Design Studio to redesign the interiors.
The event also features pieces by Maja Marx, Lulama Wolf, and Tafadzwa Tega. Additional works curated in partnership with The Norval Foundation complement the hotel’s existing collection and transform the space into a living gallery that encourages guests to see the hotel through a more intentional, art-focused lens.
The guided experience begins in the reception area and continues across several floors, including a light afternoon tea with scones, mini sandwiches, and your choice of tea or coffee.
