Cape Grace art and tea

January 22 @ 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
R750 – R900
Kate Crane Briggs at the Cape Grace Hotel

Exclusive tour of the hotel’s impressive art collection and complementary works on loan from the high regarded The Norval Foundation. The guided tour with Kate begins in the reception area and continues across the other floors. The experience is interspersed with a light afternoon tea of scones, mini sandwiches, and your choice of tea or coffee. We are calling this special event T’art!

Leila Abrahams, will join our tour. She is an interdisciplinary Cape Town artist whose practice draws on her experience of chronic illness and the emotional terrain surrounding it. Diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus at 12, Abrahams transforms materials such as gel capsules and blister packs into abstract, minimalist compositions that challenge how we view invisible illness. Her work invites empathy, curiosity and a deeper awareness of the stories behind the art. They are very beautiful too – the colours and abstraction.

The art in the main public spaces and special suite take their cue from two centrepiece textile works by the Keiskamma Art Project. These artworks are inspired by local plants and flowers, and were the first pieces bought by the hotel investors.

Artworks in the reception areas and adjoining corridors are abstract, in keeping with the design of the interior. The hotel commissioned 1508 London Design Studio to redesign the interiors.
