Salt River street art walk – cancelled rain

June 1 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The weather forecast is rain, so book your own for another time soon or scroll below for my next public ones.

From gigantic to tiny, political to pretty – the variety of murals is huge in Salt River.

Home to the annual International Public Art Festival for five years 2017-2021 (I am one of their guides), new large murals are being commissioned by the Salt River Heritage Society.

The area is full of history and is changing constantly for better, for worse. Part of the enjoyment is walking round this fascinating neighbourhood, built mainly in the late 1800s as Cape Town’s first industrialised area, along with Woodstock next door.

We start at:

Loaves by Madame Baker
Bakery/café
Unit B3, Salt Orchard
12 Briar Road (corner of Yew Street)
Salt River, 8000

We tend to finish 10 minutes walk away at sculptor (and recent graffiti artist) Uwe Pfaff’s studio, Swift St (just off Durham Ave). Details will be sent nearer the time.

10am to noon.

A map, parking, images, what to wear/bring and a short history of street art will be sent beforehand.

Street parking easy to find (as ever, don’t leave valuables in sight)

R400 per person; R300 early bird paying at least 10 days in advance

kate@cultureconnectsa.com WhatsApp/phone +27 72 377 8014 for bookings and info about private tours

I repeat this tour regularly, some weekdays, some Saturdays and in summer in the early evenings.

Let me know if you would like your own tour, or, suggest a date for future public, scheduled ones. This tour works well for families and schools.
