Salt River Street Art

November 4, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

R350

10am to noon – a hit with all ages and art interests. In both its residential and industrial areas, Salt River has murals by many of South Africa’s and the world’s best street and graffiti artists. There are 140 approx.  Some colossal in size, others tiny – the content varies enormously from the political to the decorative.

For five years it was home to Cape Town’s International Public Art Festival organised by Baz-Art (I am one of their guides).

Many find the area and its history as interesting as the art. Developed in the late 1800s, it was Cape Town’s first industrial area along with Woodstock next door. The streets of terraced housing was for the workers, initially mainly Christian, now Muslim. The effect of Apartheid lives on and the problems of gentrification.

Start place to be confirmed nearer the time.

A map, parking, images, what to wear/bring and a short history of street art here are included in the briefing sent beforehand.

Street parking easy to find (as ever, don’t leave valuables in sight)

I do these each month so check out the calendar ie upcoming tours for more dates, or book your own tour. It works well for families and school groups.

R350 per person; R260 early bird payment ten days in advance
