Salt River Street & Graffiti Art Walk

September 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

R360

A hit with all ages and art interests. Salt River has murals by many of South Africa’s and the world’s best street and graffiti artists. There are 140 approx.  Some colossal in size, others tiny – the content varies enormously from the political to the decorative.

For five years it was home to Cape Town’s International Public Art Festival organised by Baz-Art (I am one of their guides).

Many find the area and its history as interesting as the art. Developed in the late 1800s, it was Cape Town’s first industrial area along with Woodstock. The streets of terraced housing was for workers mainly Christian, now Muslim. Demographics are shifting and the problems of gentrification increasing.

10am to noon

Start at Loaves by Madam Baker (cafe/bakery soon to be moving):

Unit B3

The Salt Orchard

12 Briar Rd

Salt River, Cape Town, 8000

We finish at the start or five minutes walk away at sculptor (and recent graffiti artist) Uwe Pfaff’s studio, Swift St (just off Durham Ave).

A map, parking, guest list, what to wear/bring and a short history of street art here are included in the briefing sent beforehand.

R360 per person; R260 early bird payment before 12 Sept
