Salt River Street & Graffiti Art Walk
September 22, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
R360A hit with all ages and art interests. Salt River has murals by many of South Africa’s and the world’s best street and graffiti artists. There are 140 approx. Some colossal in size, others tiny – the content varies enormously from the political to the decorative.
For five years it was home to Cape Town’s International Public Art Festival organised by Baz-Art (I am one of their guides).
Many find the area and its history as interesting as the art. Developed in the late 1800s, it was Cape Town’s first industrial area along with Woodstock. The streets of terraced housing was for workers mainly Christian, now Muslim. Demographics are shifting and the problems of gentrification increasing.
