Maggie Laubser curator tour Karel Nel

A last chance to see the Norval Foundation’s two significant exhibitions with Karel Nel. A highly respected South African artist, Karel is an Associate Professor at the School of Arts, University of the Witwatersrand and, since it started, chief curator at the Norval Foundation.

Our focus for the tour is the beautiful Maggie Laubser exhibition Karel curated. It closes on 30 November and traces the development of her landscapes and, in particular, portrait painting 1996 – 1973, starting in the UK and Europe, then South Africa, particularly rural Swartland where she lived most of her life. Some of the work is from private collections, rarely shown in public.

Afterwards Karel will take us to Berni Searle’s major retrospective Having but little Gold which closes 13 Nov. He will give a brief introduction. It is mainly video work, and photography.
