Foodie Walk – Taste the Mother City

August 24 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm

R820

Artisanal, local and small, we visit a range of delicious foodie places. All of them started and run by people passionate and dedicated to producing the best possible. – Just like, Dennis Molewa, the leader of our new walking tour.

Dennis is a journalist, small business activist and tourist guide. Originally from Germany, he has lived in South Africa for 15 years. His food tours are in central Cape Town, Salt River (with Street Art) and Bellville. He specialises in African food and storytelling tours.

‘Dennis Molewa, gets you away from the chichi European restaurants and takes you to casual African eateries that will leave your belly full and spices lingering on your tongue.’ The New York Times

‘Nothing tells a story like this off-the-radar African Food and Storytelling Tour in Cape Town’ The Sunday Times

Our tour includes Somali, Jewish, French, Lebanese, West African and South African – we stop outside some places, go into others. We’ll meet briefly some of the founders and key staff. A few will give us tasters.

We meet at 10h30 at:

New York Bagels

44 Harrington Street (junction of Albertus Street)

District 6 (near the District 6 Museum)

Tip: arrive early to spoil yourself to traditional hand-made, boiled (obviously!) bagels or the cheesecake (many say it is the best in Cape Town).

We finish with lunch at a small cafe:

Fatima’s West Africa Restaurant

1st floor

98 Long Street (between Church and Longmarket Streets)

The tour ends at 13h30.

Afterwards there is the option to go to Honest Cafe, 64A Wale Street (between Loop and Bree Streets). Its hand-made chocolate is made with cacao beans from Kokoa Kamili in Tanzania. They roast, winnow and grind the beans in their Woodstock kitchen, hand tempering the chocolate on a granite slab – yum!

Price: paying pre 14 August R620, otherwise R820 per person – this includes lunch
