City Walk – opening your eyes
November 1, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
R350
Get to know Cape Town’s bustling, diverse and dynamic past and present – this walking tour is great if you are new to Cape Town or wish to know it better.
Classic must-sees are mixed with hidden gems. Repurposed historic buildings, architectural landmarks, hidden away art spaces, new developments…we’ll see the good, bad, ugly and beautiful.
I point out places of significance and interest – Castle of Good Hope, District 6, Old Granary (now the Tutu Foundation), Anglican and Catholic Cathedrals, Groote Kerk, Noor El Hamedia Mosque, and Bo-Kaap.
We visit briefly the flower market, old Main Post Office, A4 Foundation, House Union Block, Church Square, Greenmarket Square, Church Street and Company’s Garden.
Colonial to contemporary, building styles are wide ranging, often side by side. We ‘taste’ African, British, Dutch, American and even French architecture.
Art is around every corner – some free standing, others on buildings – from new large murals to carvings created a century or so ago. It is easy in a bustling city not to look up and enjoy such detail.
We start by the Castle of Good Hope – details will be sent just beforehand (Parliament is using City Hall so I need to check where is accessible).
We finish at Heritage Square by the oldest known surviving (and still productive) vine.
Come after breakfast as we won’t stop for refreshments, and wear comfy shoes – a morning to remember and enjoy.
R260 per person paying pre Tues, then R350

Do join me for light lunch at the Bo-Kaap Deli afterwards, a five minute walk away. Ideally let me know in advance.
I run this open, public tour once a month – do book your own (great for family and friend groups)
