Bo-Kaap home cooking and supper
November 22, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
R950Fazlin Ferguson is a brilliant cook and hostess. She has lived in the Bo-Kaap all her life. My daughter says she makes the best dal curry, so I’m keen to learn how to make it, and enjoy Fazlin’s wonderful company, along with daughter and neighbour (pictured below at their last Culture Connect at the Dorp Hotel, round the corner from their home).
We’ll learn about Cape Malay cooking – the traditions, spices and modern touches. Our meal is vegetarian and fine for people like me who don’t eat wheat.
Authentic, heartfelt and real, it is very special being in the small family home.
Located high up in the Bo-Kaap, the views are magnificent over the city to Table Mountain.
This is a first; the other times I organise cooking demo’s at Fazlin’s has been for privately commissioned experiences.
Fazlin is a registered tourist guide and actively promotes women in tourism, especially in the Bo-Kaap. She learnt cooking from her mother as a child and our meal is based on a classic Cape Malay menu – samosa’s and chilli bites (wheat free) to start, then vegetarian curries with rice and rotis. There will be a sweet treat at the end and spicy tea.
Wed 22 Nov, 6pm – 9pm, R770 per head paying pre Nov, then R950. This includes a briefing with the address, Bo-Kaap history, guest list etc.
