History, community and DJs

Langa with Bridges for Music || Wednesday 8 March 2023 || 10h00 to 12h00 ||

”Pure optimism” was how a Culture Connector visiting from London described this tour, ”truly it was a highlight of my trip. I was concerned beforehand that it would drift into poverty porn.. couldn’t be further from the truth. A tour of the township’s history, culture, innovation and future!”

For our experience in Cape Town’s oldest township, our host and partner is Bridges for Music, a not-for-profit for creative entrepreneurship, well-being and music. Their stylish home, cleverly made from converted containers, are where we start and finish.

Fundi Mbambani who manages their study abroad and tourism programmes, will show us round their recording studios, meeting places and cafe. Then take a walk around the neighbouring streets with a variety of housing, enterprises and public services. We’ll visit the Dompas Museum, the old Langa Pass Office – it is like stepping back in time. Guga SThebe too, the community arts centre on our way home.

R350 per person, or R260 payment pre  22 February
