This beautifully designed new, small space has the feel of both a contemporary art gallery and house museum. Dedicated to artists Erik Laubscher (1927 – 2013) and his wife Claude Bouscharain (1922 – 2020), its overall style is mid century modern, in keeping with the style of their art.
Our host is one of the Foundation’s three trustees, Phillippa Duncan, art consultant and founder of Vault Research. Phillippa hosted a supper for Culture Connect at her home last August.
Phillippa runs this new space, which is generally not open to the public, unless by prior appointment. She led the creation of this new space, designed by architect Kevin Fellingham.
Working closely with Erik’s and Claude’s children, Phillippa will tell us how it came into being, about its aims and plans, as well as sharing her incredible knowledge of Erik’s and Claude’s work (indeed South African art).
Our supper is being created by Robert Mulders of 6 Spin Street. It will be inspired by Erik’s and Claude’s own culinary favourites. We will use the dining table from their house, 6 Cheviot Place in Green Point, which was recently sold.
