Nando’s Art Collection Tour

Nando Duarte is hosting Culture Connect SA at their striking head offices in a surprising part of Joburg, Lorentzville (his father was one of the co-founders of Nando’s which is named after him!). Nando’s has the largest collection of South African contemporary art with approaching 20 000 pieces; most of it is in their head office “a heartfelt celebration of South African design” (Visi). Its signature pieces of mid career artists, are integral to its striking design – both inside and out.

For a very different setting and atmosphere, we go to Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) which was started over 100 years ago; its collection spans indigenous art to modern greats, like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dali and Damien Hirst. Our host is curator, Colin Groenewald. His tour for Culture Connect SA will include Ângela Ferreira’s show with a new work inspired by JAG’s 1980s extension. This is the first exhibition of this internationally recognised artist in a public institution in South Africa.
